Character: Amonir
Canon: D&D 3.5 (Races of Fauren)
Version: OC
Canon Point: n/a
Age: 79- He appears to be about the human equivalent of somewhere between 16-18. “Adult” for an elf is about 110 years old, and rather than ageing like a human, they get a bit of a glow to their skin as they get older after having matured, though they do still get more fragile. Some elves can live up to even 700 years, though 400-500 is more common.
Gender: Male
History: Amonir grew up with what might be considered a very uneventful life. He never fought any great monsters, or overcame any great adversaries. Though he can change between a wolf and an elvish form freely, and even by the world outside his forest that is seen as strange, to him it is perfectly normal. His education did not involve much learning from books save for a select few philosophers, but was as wide-ranged as one might expect from what would be their world's equivalent schooling of a 19th century boy, learning just as much history, science, math, and other such modes of thought. Because their schooling was done with little writing, Amonir might be considered special in some respects because the teaching methods and learning methods caused him to have developed the skill of being able to do arithmetic in his head easily, as well as a good memory for anything that has been spoken. Thanks to his skill with voice control he has also learned to be a decent mimic of sounds, and isn't terrible in mimicking a voice either.
Because his natural behaviour shows more dominance, he was trained as a bard, or 'story keeper' in his pack, which puts him in the running to be the one of the next generation to lead the pack. His main competitor is a female wolf by the name of Rythai, who he only really knows through their lessons together. Though she always is pressing to out do him, and often does, he does not show much interest in trying to out-do her in anything but the field of music, essentially allowing her to take the position as leader. He sees it as being for the best, anyway, as she is the best in leading the hunt and in methods of defending the pack, even if he could serve competently in her absence.
He has knowledge of many types of monsters that are found in the wilderness thanks to his training, though he has only personally taken on some imps, a cursed pixie, and an arachnid monster, and all of these were fought off with the help of several other wolves. He managed his fair-share of damage, and proved skilled with his bardic magic, but he did not do the most damage against any of them, nor did he manage the final blow. He has, however, often done make-believe battles as a pup, where-in he would fight the same monsters as his heroic namesake and a former alpha, Amonirel, such as a Great Green Wyrm Dragon, a demon that managed to slip into their plane, a nest of huge monstrous spiders, a treant corrupted by the Drow goddess named Loth, or a number of other epic battles.
The other thing that might stand out about his life in the forest would be the fact that he has never been out of the forest. Since the story keepers are also the pack's ambassadors, Amonir's schooling also included information on human cultures. Thanks to this, he has learned of and seen drawings of human settlements and houses, and knows enough about the culture to manage to pass well enough if he were suddenly immersed in an urban area, however he has never actually seen any. His pack live in dens of stone or dirt and wood, since that is all that they ever needed for shelter, thanks to their coats. It is not uncommon for lythari to be naked when in their elvish form, though this is one of the things Amonir has learned is strange for humans and even other elves. There is little need for lythari to wear clothes though, and it only causes trouble when trying to transform, though most lythari, including Amonir, learn to transform in such a way that they don't get tangled in their clothes by moving in certain ways during the transformation. Lythari wear clothing mostly for protection from weather on only the coldest of days in the dead of winter, or for armour during the patrols of the boarder that might take several days. The days spent checking for the scent of any unwelcome lythari or wolf are the most time 'alone' that Amonir has ever had, and even then he could have someone of his pack by his side in minutes with a single howl.
Personality: Amonir is a 'teen' my the standards of his race, and he often shows it. He is playful and full of life, prone to pouncing on his friends for random bouts of play wrestling, however short they might be. He has a racial habit of putting things he's curious about into his mouth that is generally grown out of as they get older, and not all too uncommon in lythari his age. Of course, he knows that there are some things that he should not put in his mouth, and generally refrains from this practice for as long as he's actually paying attention, however he still might in moments where he doesn't think. He also tends to still get excited about 'treats', whether it's the best piece of a deer's flank or a piece of candy. He does have a good deal of fore-thought and experience however, and knows when it's important to curtail these habits and replace them with the more mature things he has learned.
He is not likely to make such playful pounces during times of danger, which, for the sake of Portes, will be primarily during the night hours. He might normally not turn down a treat, but he is also smart and sensible enough to generally know when it would not be wise to trust even the most delicious-looking slice of meat. He is likely to begin to make careful precautions, such as making breads, drying fruits, and curing meats during the day so that he will have less to worry about during the night, and scouting out a more defensible area to stay in during the night.
Though he enjoys play-wrestling, his people frown on senseless violence when it comes to actual attempts at harm, and so generally speaking, he is a pacifist that would much prefer to sit and talk out a disagreement than he would turn to violence to settle his problems. This does not mean that when it comes to defending himself he will avoid the fight or try to end it quickly and escape. He has no problem killing creatures that lack any apparent sentience, or that will kill him if he doesn't kill them first.
He is also very much a pack 'animal'. He has never before been without his pack, even if sometimes he might patrol a border without seeing his family for a few days, he is always only a mere howl away from knowing where all of his friends are, and a single howl away from help. He has plenty of theoretical experience in living on his own because of this, however the idea of being separated is something that wears at him. Because he is also a lythari that is fairly dominant by nature, he can manage on his own well enough, but that does not mean that he won't feel the strain of being separated from his life-time companions over time, and the feeling will only grow. He will, however, be looking for a new pack while here, even if he won't be entirely conscious of this attempt. It is really just a natural instinct he has as a dominant wolf.
This dominance also means that he will not want to bow to just anyone in a situation. He knows his limits, and if the other person cannot prove their abilities, he will not follow them. He is not so dominant, however, that he will try to assert himself over someone of equal or better skill, and would be happy to instead take a secondary role, supporting them. While his people are infamously proud and even called racist, they also are the first to admit the skills they can find in others, and Amonir is no exception to this. While he generally thinks that lythari and elves are the most skilled and wisest over all, he recognizes the individual, and that he does not embody all of the perfections of his race, even if he is still very proud. He also is more than willing to accept when someone is better than him in just about any field except for his singing and story-telling.
Fears: One of Amonir's worst fears is being alone. He was raised in a pack, and even when they are not within sight of one another, a howl confirms not just that there are others around, but who they are, and where they are, even miles away. This will be his first time ever being separated from his pack, and he will find it vital to create or join a sort of 'pack' while in the house, though he is not even likely to recognise what he is doing.
He's also afraid of letting people down. He can be happy with only a beta position, so long as things don't go wrong because he was incapable of living up to his responsibilities, or even worse, because he failed to live up to them. His friends pointing this out is even scarier.
Though he is not likely to actually know of this himself, the thought of losing his ability to change form, in either direction, scares him. It's a fear that he's never given much thought to, but would create for him a huge panic. Both forms are such a large part of who he is that it would be like taking away half of who he is. If he lost his ability to cast spells, he'd be confused and nervous, but not to the level of if he were to loose his ability to transform.
He is more consciously aware of his fear of losing his voice. He has a very base knowledge of basic string and wind instruments, but his voice has always been his pride, whichever form he is in. He was naturally born with perfect pitch, and trained very hard to become better and better at singing and increasing his range, not so much for his bardic abilities, or for his position as a historian, but for the pure love of song, and he has been celebrated by all, even his rival, as the most skilled singer of the pack. To loose that would be even worse than being stuck in one form or another.
Weaknesses: One of the most obvious weaknesses he has is silver. Any silver weapon does damage to him a lot more easily, though unlike traditional lore, just holding silver does not cause his skin to blister or burn. Still, it is the easiest way to take him down. He also has restrictions on the number of times a day he can use the spells that he knows. For dancing lights, ghost sound, lullaby, mage hand, mending, and message, he can only cast six times a day total, and only three times a day from the rest.
His race also lacks a hybrid lycanthrope form, meaning that he can only get his extra strength, dexterity, and constitution while a full wolf. In that form, obviously he has no thumbs, and he also cannot speak normally. With a good deal of effort, he is smart enough to control the sounds he can make into a limited number of words that sound similar to natural wolf sounds.
Another problem caused by his lycanthropy is his opinions and habits of nudity. While he is not particularly fond of being nude, it also does not bother him because of his culture. Whenever he plans to transform, he will undress and remove all his equipment and attempt to hide it. He also only wears the studded leather armour, with no shirt. It is cut in such a way that it makes him able to slip out of it more easily if he needs to transform quickly, but these things also mean that he has a high chance of making people feel uncomfortable, and there's also the chance of his things getting stolen.
Another weakness he has is his loyalty. He won't be so fiercely loyal to people he just knows, or considers allies, but he will end up adopting some people into what he would consider more of a “pack” level, and he would never leave these people behind, or let outside forces insult or hurt them, even if it means a fair amount of danger towards his own well being. The only time he might is if trying to save the other person would put more people he considers close enough to be his 'pack' into danger.
Amonir's magic also has another restriction, wherein he must have a full night's rest, and then concentrate for 15 minutes while singing in order to prepare his spells for the day.
Mundane Strengths/Abilities: Most obviously, he is a fantastic singer. Even without imbuing magic into his voice, it's the sort that tends to give people butterflies in their stomach and chills down their spines. He has a knowledge of other instruments as well, though he is not skilled enough in any of them to use them for his bardic magic. In part, it is a sort of intuition that he has for music and sound that allows him to hear a melody only once or twice and be able to know what every note is. Likewise, he can remember through testing what position makes what sound, though it is less accurate than the direct recall of a series of notes.
Outside of music, he has a few martial talents as well. He has no training in hand-to-hand combat, but it is something that comes fairly naturally to his race. He has, however, had need to put a lot of training and practice into his longbow. He knows basic repairs to it, and has learned fletching as well, but he has managed to develop a decent accuracy with it, though he is by no means a master. He has also trained in a bit of dagger use, and can use his dagger to fight as easily as he could skin an animal with it. He is no artist with skinning, but is passable enough that if needed he could skin a creature he took down to use it's skin as extra warmth at the least, but of course he would only do that if he also needed the meat from the creature or would be very likely to die even in his wolf form without the fur. While no chef, Amonir also has a basic skill in cooking, if only to add variety to his diet. This is just one of the survival skills that he needed to learn from his pack.
Amonir is a natural-born leader, to a certain extent. He likes to take charge and has strong problem-solving skills, but his true skill is his ability to get people who are 'submissive', or the sort that would willingly follow someone else, to be more than happy to follow him. While he may often defer to another's judgement on overall leading, he makes a great face of the pack. He does not like all of the responsibility, but his good sense of who is a good person to trust usually helps him pick a good person to follow, and then his own charisma is helpful in binding the rest of the followers. He can usually see what it is that binds a group, and will remind them of it to give a stronger sense of camaraderie.
Other than for purposes of entertainment, Amonir's knowledge of his pack's history, and even the history of his world is useless, even if it is thorough. He can also do up to early high school arithmetic in his head because of the learning methods, and has a very accurate memory for things that have been said, including a skill in sound mimickry.
Sensitivity/Magical Ability: Amonir can use his songs or poems he knows (or even makes up on the spot) to cast a few spells, as follows;
Dancing lights- It creates up to four small lantern-like lights, or can create the outline of a single humanoid form, and this lasts for one minute. They can move up to 100 feet from Amonir, but can only move 10 feet from each other.
Ghost sound- This allows you to create a volume of sound equal to that of four humans, that rises, recedes, approaches, or remains at a fixed place. You can pick a type of sound at casting, and it can't be changed afterwards. This only lasts about 30 seconds, but it can be enough to create a much-needed distraction.
Lullaby- This will make someone extremely drowsy for about 30 seconds, or 60 seconds if he casts this while in his wolf form. It makes them less attentive, and more likely to fall asleep.
Mage Hand- This allows him to point to an object that is non-magical and 5lbs. or less, and move it. If he wants to, he can also throw it up to 15 feet. This lasts for as long as he can keep concentrating.
Mending- This can repair breaks and tears in light objects so that all repairs are invisible.
Message- Amonir can point to someone, and cast this spell. By doing so, it will allow this person to hold a whispered conversation with him at a distance of up to 130 feet. Any magic barring any sounds from being made, 1 foot of stone, 1 inch of common metal, a thin sheet of lead, or 3 feet of wood or dirt will create a barrier the spell cannot pass, however it does not need to travel in a straight line. If there is a path available that lies completely within the 130 foot radius of the spell, it can travel that path.
Alarm- This is a lot like it sounds like. A password is required to be spoken to enter a certain area up to a 20 foot radius around a location determined by Amonir within 30 feet of Amonir. It can be either mental or audible, and the warding will last for 6 hours. Mental would mean that only he would know the alarm went off, and he would be alerted by a 'ping' that is enough to wake him from sleep, but not otherwise break his concentration. An audible alarm creates the ringing of a hand bell for 6 seconds, and can be clearly heard by anyone up to 60 feet away, so long as there are no obstacles that make it more difficult for sound to pass through. It can be faintly heard in quiet conditions up to about 180 feet, with the same concerns for things such as walls and closed doors, or even corners and stairs. The ghosts of the house will not trigger this alarm.
Cure Light Wounds- This can heal a bit of damage, allowing Amonir to completely hear minor scratches, shallower wounds that might need stitches, or, at most, a broken bone, if that bone is all that is concentrated on, though it would not be able to also heal the damage to the surrounding tissue. If someone is bleeding out, this spell can stop the bleeding, though, as if the person were bandaged or stitched, they risk starting to bleed again if they do any movement that would stress the injury.
Sleep- If successful, this will put creatures to sleep, though it is not likely to be very effective on the stronger monsters of the house, especially if he is not able to first cast lullaby to weaken their ability to resist falling asleep.
Aside from these spells, there are some racial traits and class skills that Amonir has. The most important being his ability to shape shift from his elven form into that of a wolf. He has complete control of this transformation, and it only takes a few seconds for the change to take place. His clothes and equipment will drop when he transforms, if he does not take it all off first. Of course, as a wolf he has a keen sense of smell, but he keeps that skill as an elf. Also, being an elf, he naturally can see well in conditions of low-light (such as a small candle lighting a large room), and is immune to things that might make you sleep, as elves instead go into a trance for six hours, during which time they are vaguely aware of their surroundings, even while they 'dream'.
As a lycanthrope, he's also built a bit hardier than your average person, with tougher skin, so he's harder to hurt and can take a lot more damage than other people, unless the weapon being used is silver. He is also able to communicate with normal or “dire” (a larger version that is more violent, found in his world) wolf or dog. Due to the nature of the monsters, it is up to the mods if this ability extends to them at all.
As a bard he has some abilities in addition to his spells. He can, up to three times a day, use his singing to cast one of these abilities;
Fascinate- Amonir uses his music to make someone entranced with him and his music. This can only last for about 30 seconds, and any obvious hostile action towards the subject breaks the enchantment.
Counter song- Amonir can use his singing to try to interrupt any magical effects based on sound, and can keep interrupting it for up to a minute.
Inspire Courage- He is able to use his singing as a kind of rallying cry to help his allies overcome feelings of fear, and can even slightly improve how well his allies can attack. This effect works for himself too, and lasts as long as he keeps singing, and then for another 30 seconds afterwards.
Inspire Competence- This helps an ally use a skill (such as tying rope, picking a lock, or other actions determined by the D&D skill list,) more efficiently, so long as the ally can hear him, for up to two minutes. He cannot use this on himself.

Sample RP post: Amonir sniffed around. Every scent was unfamiliar. There wasn't even any forest scent. Wood, yes, but not forest. There were humans, people, plenty of people, and something else, something completely unfamiliar, but he could not figure out those odder scents. Looking around he realized it was some sort of house that he was in, and he could not figure for the life of him how he had gone from a hunt to a house, when the nearest settlement was hundreds of miles away, past the forest edge. A teleportation spell of some sort? But why him? It would have taken a lot of effort to do such a thing. Why take one of the several of his pack that keeps record of the history and practised bardic magic? There were many others far more sensible to take. Unless...
Before taking any action, he tested the door, even struck it to no avail. Next he went to the closet, began to undress, packed his clothes into his back pack, stored it on a top shelf, and then transformed from his tall elf form into a wolf. He slipped out of the closet and pulled a rather odd stunt for a wolf in order to pull the door closed.
He threw back his head and howled, cutting it a bit short as he turned his ears back at the echo. He didn't like how the house made things echo so loudly. It was... unnatural. He listened for any sort of response, but there was not even a hint of a voice he recognized. He sniffed around, looking for the scent of any elf, and found none.
If there was no one here that would really notice.... He walked up to the door, lifted his leg, and marked it. If his pack came looking, there would be no mistaking that he was here, whatever reason there was for him to have been spirited here. Now he just had to get more familiar with the place and figure out who had brought him here and why.

Sensitivity/Magical Ability: Amonir can use his songs or poems he knows (or even makes up on the spot) to cast a few spells, as follows;
As a bard he has some abilities in addition to his spells. He can, up to three times a day, use his singing to cast one of these abilities;
